8' ExploraDome Current Horizon Height 1/12/22

I just received my 8' dome from Dustin. He has been very helpful. He could not however answer an important question for me.  The manual from the website, which is outdated, shows the horizon at 60". The steel sheets used for siding have changed. The height of the steel sheets is now 50" rather than 54" as shown in the outdated manual. I'm now concerned that the horizon has also been lowered by 4". This is important to me as I am already building a 20" high platform to set the observatory onto a platform to provide a better southern horizon....  I have an issue with the house peak obstructing my southern horizon. If you look at the attached ExploraDome 8' observatory picture you will see where the horizon is drawn. Can anybody out there tell me if they used 50" tall sheets is the 60" horizon, as shown here, is still maintained? Thanks much!!

I can't help much but I just measured my walls on my 10'6" observatory and indeed they are 54".  Lowering it 4" would probably make getting in and out of it more difficult.  I wonder why they did that?

Thanks Ray. I have an unusual situation in that I am trying to minimize the effect of the roof peak on the southern horizon. To overcome the problem, I have to build a platform to set the ExploraDome onto. So I just added at least 4 more inches to the platform to recover the loss of height.  Regards, Frank

Hi Frank,

I just ordered the ED with 8' round building for my house in the mountains, expect to get it in April/May.  I'm doing the planning work now--did you ever get a definitive answer to your question?  50" or 54"?

Thanks,
